It’s been no secret that Better Off have been sitting on a new record for a couple of months, but the announcement is finally here. Two years after the unprecedented success of their debut release (I Think) I’m Leaving, the breakout local pop punk/alternative/emo infused outfit have announced and launched pre-orders for their sophomore album Milk, which is set to release Sept. 11, and is their debut full-length on Equal Vision Records. Check out their massive new cut “Whatever, I Don’t Care,” and find out more about the album after the jump.

Two years ago, Better off were playing shows in a scary room behind a laundromat on Dickerson Pike (RIP The Owl Farm). This summer, they are going on two unbelievable tours, one with Basement and Whirr, the other with Bayside and The Early November. They have been signed to Equal Vision since last year, and the label released their “Meth Head” 7-inch, as well as a music video, last winter. But Milk is their first full-length record with their buzzworthy new label, and it’s already getting major attention. With production by fellow Nashville resident Arun Bali (known for playing guitar in seminal emo group Saves The Day), mixing by Matt McClellan (Being As An Ocean), and mastering by Kris Crummett (The Early November), Better Off have pulled out all the stops on their latest effort.

“Whatever, I Don’t Care” is the local rock song of the summer: full of punch  and an urge to sing along, it is an anthem. It is rowdy, it is fun, it sounds like Dinosaur Pile-Up had fifty babies and they formed the biggest band ever. It also shows that Better Off demand attention but, as the album art suggests, still want to have a good time. You can listen to the song below, pre-order the record here, and grab a ticket for Better Off’s recently announced Aug. 25 show at The End with The Early November and Clay Cages here.
