This Weekend In Nashville, November 2-4

No witty intro here.  I am no longer witty.  I am witless.  I am a slave to this computer.  I don’t have anything intelligent to say.  I want to just copy and paste a bunch of publicist blurbs in here with no music for you to listen to.  I want this computer to crash.  I want some whiskey.  Maybe I should start smoking pot.  Maybe I should get a xanax prescription.  Maybe this is all I needed to do to get started with this post.  Maybe you guys won’t even read any further because  you think I am high.  Maybe you have already stopped reading this and moved onto the media because we live in a generation with a 45 second attention span.  Maybe this is the longest introduction I have ever done for a Weekend In Nashville post, and I didn’t even say anything.  Maybe, you should get out and see some live music this weekend.

Friday night

Heartless Bastards are back in town, and still touring in support of their release Arrow from earlier this year.  We last heard from them back in March when they played over at Mercy Lounge.  It’s a loud, fun, melodic garage rock with a really sweet side that is sure to knock your hamster off the work wheel.  I had a crazy idea that they might be in town to record with Patrick Carney, who is responsible for getting their demo in the hands of Fat Possum Records back in 2004, but The Black Keys are in Australia, so that’s an unlikely scenario.  Regardless, you have your chance to catch another fantastic set from them tonight with Futurebirds and Wussy over at 3rd & Lindsley starting at 8pm.  Tickets are $15, and you can snag those here.  You can check out their most recent release Arrow below.

After stopping in for a Communion gig last night at The Basement, Matthew & The Atlas of the London new folk revival are stopping off for a little house party action that’s put together by the fine folks at Cause A Scene.  The party location is over in Brentwood at 5008 Longstreet Drive (you can park in the church lot across the street).  There might be a $10 cover for this one, but that will also get you some John Fullbright.  I’d pack some beers of my own, and try my hardest to behave for this one.  You can have a listen to “Within The Rose” from Matthew & The Atlas below.

If you need more of the folky good time in more public confines, then I would suggest heading down to The High Watt for Frontier Ruckus, Foreign Fields, & Honey Locust.  This is essentially some of the same good times described above, but you can get shots and act like a fool until those big-ass Rock Solid guys kick you out.  Tickets are $10, and the show starts at 9pm.  You can have a listen to some players from each below.

Saturday

He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister is performing over at The High Watt, and we’ll have more on that one in about an hour from our newest contributor Jessika.  If you know the band or already know how Jessika is going to convince you to go to this show, you can grab your tickets here.  Things get started at 8pm.

If that’s not your bag, then you’ll want to cruise on over to Exit/In for The Fresh & Onlys, Quilt, and No Regrets Coyote.  This is like a mini Pitchfork Festival for those of you not in Paris (that’s the one in France, folks) this weekend.  The Fresh & Onlys “Waterfall” is seemingly in every mix I hear these days, and that has to be a good sign.  Quilt was last in town for that pretty awesome in-store at Grimey’s back in April, and you can revive that 60’s sound with that player below.  No Regrets Coyote are no strangers to Nashville stages, and they’ll open things up starting around 8pm, and you can snag tickets for that one here.

Sunday

If you still have some energy, Nashville alt-rock youngsters Lines In the Sky are taking over Exit/In on Sunday night for some Sunday School action.  Also on the bill are Wings of Apollo, That’s My Kid, & Daily Howl.  The best part of this one is that it’s FREE!  You can check out Lines In The Sky’s “Threads” below.  Things get started around 7pm.

For those of you that require some hip-hop in your weekend, you should plan on hitting up War Memorial Auditorium for Kendrick Lamar & Chancellor Warhol.  You can still grab some tickets for that one here, and if you don’t know anything about these guys, you should check out the practically breathless lyrics that Kendrick drops in “Rigamortis” below, and then you should check out this sick freestyle he did a couple of days ago in Dallas over at Break On A Cloud.
