Cofounder of My Morning Jacket, and cousin of frontman Jim James, Johnny Quaid split (amicably) from MMJ in 2004, and Quaid was reborn with his current band The Ravenna Colt soon after. This new platform turned some heads, and got our attention, with their stellar debut record Slight Spell (2010) and now they’re back with the equally bad ass follow-up Terminal Current. Imagine Flying Burrito Brothers’ twang, meeting elements of folk wisdom a la Bob Dylan or Townes Van Zandt, and you’re starting to get a feel for them. You can take our word for it, and get a hard/digital copy of both records now, or you can decide for yourselves, when you see them perform a cozy, FREE in-store set at Grimey’s New and Pre-Loved Music. Tunes start around 6 PM, and these shows tend to fill-up fast, so get there early, and enjoy (limited) free beers, if of legal drinking age, while you’re at it. Look for more from Mr. Quaid plus his homies after the jump, and we’ll look for you at the gig tonight!
