Man, it’s finally fall, and, while this was supposed to be the perfect weather for enjoying Soundland, we now have to find another outlet to get our musical fix this weekend. So, here’s our little not so little rundown of what is going on during this very busy weekend in Nashville. Get out and see some live music.
Friday
In the spirit of Soundland, let’s start things off here. Even though the Riverfront event isn’t, there are still some fun Soundland sponsored happenings around town this weekend including the official kickoff party Hustle over at Cannery Ballroom. It’s a one of a kind dance party created by the minds behind Electric Western, The Boom Bap, Recognize, Keep On Movin!, Y2K, and Whiskey Disco. HUSTLE will feature DJ sets from Coach, DJ Rate, Reno Bo, and Jacob Jones; the DJs from Nashville’s most successful parties. Put on in collaboration with Nashville’s best of the best young business community, expect a night filled with rock n roll, soul, classic hip hop, and anything that gets your feet moving. So get sharp and come out and enjoy the night. It’s time to HUSTLE… The first 199 folks get in free, so get there early… or you’ll pay $10. Doors at 8pm, and the turntables spin at 9pm.
Up at Mercy Lounge, you have Langhorne Slim, River City Extension, Sol Cat, and Kansas Bible Company. Langhorne Slim is a touring machine that has been through town a few times this past year. River City Extension was one of our surprise bands from Bonnaroo in 2011. We’ve definitely talked about the two Nashville openers quite a bit over the past year as well. You can have a listen to tracks of each below, including the new single “Witches and Wizards” off of KBC’s upcoming album Hotel Chicamauga. This bad boy is FREE! So, if you are downstairs or at The High Watt, you should swing by after 9pm to check out a little bit of this one too.

Sticking on the Cannery Row front, The Weeks are releasing their new EP Gutter Gaunt Gangster up at The High Watt along with Junior Astronomers. You can have a listen to that EP below. Tickets are $5 to get in, $10 w/ CD, or $15 for vinyl, and things get started around 9pm.

We’re not done with Friday night yet. You also have First Aid Kit with Dylan Leblanc over at 3rd and Lindsley. Have a listen to the pretty fun stage share that they did with Jack White in Olympia, WA when they helped to perform “We Are Gonna Be Friends”. Things get started around 9:30, and you can grab those $15 tickets here.

Still going with Friday… If you want to stay on the east side, you have the choices of No Regrets Coyote, Strangefellas, and El Origins over at Dino’s or Captain Midnight Band, Twin Cats, & Great Barrier Reefs over at The 5 Spot. You’re on your own for those players. This post is ridiculously long already, and it is still Friday.
Saturday
Things settle down just a little bit on Saturday, and get started with Musicians Corner in Centennial Park featuring Regi Wooten & Friends, Phil Keaggy, Shannon Sanders, and The Future, Piper Jones (acoustic), Annie Lawrence (acoustic), and Neal Carpenter (acoustic). This one gets rolling around 3pm, and is totally free for ya.
You also have that live recording session for The Shins over at Third Man Records starting around 7pm, but, unless you already have tickets for that one, it’s probably already too late for ya. I guess you could stand outside those yellow garage doors and try to still get some of the ambiance, or you could just grab a ticket to the Ryman on Sunday.
If you are up for some really intelligent danceable hip-hop then you need Aesop Rock w/ Dark Time Sunshine over at Exit/In. Last time I saw Aesop was 2007, and it was freaking amazing. There is no reason to believe it will be any different tonight. Have a listen to the title track from his 2007 record. I haven’t heard his 2012 release Skelethon yet, but I’ll spend some time with it this weekend before the show.
You also have Soundland night going on on Cannery Row with JD McPherson, Jonny “Corndawg” Fritz, and Nikki Lane on the Mercy Lounge stage. While Generationals (who blew my mind last year opening for Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr) are playing over at The High Watt stage with The Tontons and Devin. You can snag tickets for both of those for only $15. Have a listen to Generationals’ “Ten-Twenty-Ten” below.

Once again, east siders… you can check out Echo Group, mom & dad , Wilder Maker over at The 5 Spot for next to nothing starting at 9pm.
Sunday
If you didn’t get out to see The Shins at Third Man, this is your opportunity to make it happen. Their show at The Ryman is going to be pretty epic, I’m sure. There is no need for me to tell you about The Shins, if you don’t know them then you should close this webpage right now. You can have a listen to one of my favorite tracks from the new record “The Rifles Spiral” below, and you can snag some of the remaining tickets here.

If you don’t want to pay Ryman prices, but you still want some nicely styled indie pop, then Bombay Bicycle Club & Vacationer is your best bet. This one gets rolling over at Exit/In around 8pm. You can check out the Bombay Bicycle Club track “Shuffle” below, and you can snag those tickets here.
