Shakey Graves Alejandro Rose-Garcia 3/13/14 Billy Reid showcase at Weather Up

As we’ve been doing for the past several years now, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with as many bands as we can from Bonnaroo‘s impressive 2015 lineup.  We’ll start from the bottom and work our way up, paying special attention to the smaller and lesser known acts on this year’s bill. Keep reading for your Bonnaroo Band of the Day…

LEARN

Shakey Graves, birth name Alejandro Rose-Garcia (in case you were wondering), is probably one of the best one-man-band performers we have ever seen. One heel is on a pedal for a kick drum he made out of an old suitcase, a pedal for tambourine is under the other foot, both stomping out the rhythm. All the while, there is some epic blues/folk finger picking and heavy alt-Americana crooning going on. He got his start as an actor, with a reoccurring role on Friday Night Lights, but began earning his bones as a musician in New York City’s underground anti-folk scene. Graves’ 2011 self-released debut, Roll The Bones, was met with much critical praise and ever growing fan appreciation. He followed up with an EP, Donor Blues, and then last years full-length, And The War Came, which has seen his star began rise to new heights.

A hectic tour schedule has followed the album’s release, including his last Music City gig (read this post), which sold out. Shakey also did a limited release, Feb 9-11 online only, eleven song EP called Nobody’s Fool. It’s basically the b-sides of And The War Came, and other songs recorded during that album’s genesis. If you missed the window, don’t worry! It will be available again the same dates next year, something he’s dubbed Shakey Graves Day. See why this eclectic performer earned his own day this June, on The Farm, when the Austin artist brings his brand of Americana, blues, and country infused rock ’n’ roll to the masses.
