As we’ve been doing for the past several years now, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with as many bands as we can from Bonnaroo‘s impressive 2015 lineup.  We’ll start from the bottom and work our way up, paying special attention to the smaller and lesser known acts on this year’s bill. Keep reading for your Bonnaroo Band of the Day…

LEARN

The Growlers have been perfecting their self-described “Beach Goth” style since forming in Southern California in the mid 2000s, mixing ’60s California pop sounds with the fuzzy reverb and effects of psychedelica.  They released their first EP, Couples Vol. 1-4, in 2008, and followed that up with the aptly titled Couples Vol. 5-8 in 2009, before being picked up by Everloving Records in to release their first full-length, Are You In Or Are You Out?  The group began to truly garner attention with their 2013 LP Hung At Heart, largely based on the success of singles like “One Million Lovers” and “Someday.”  The Growlers jumped on the Burger Caravan of Stars tour that year, where we caught them at Mercy Lounge.  Their latest release, Chinese Fountain, dropped in September of 2014, and most recently brought them back to town with an Exit/In date in support.

The band have toured relentlessly over the past few years, including dates with the likes of The Black Keys, Dr Dog, Devandra Barnhardt, and Julian Casablancas.  Their continued success has slotted them sets at Rock In Rio and Burgerama events, extensive overseas tours, and a steady slate of upcoming dates in North America and Europe, in addition to their debut at Bonnaroo this year.  Needless to say, if you are a fan of tripped out rock jams from bands like Black Lips, Deer Tick, or Blitzen Trapper, The Growlers’ set at Bonnaroo is going to be a not to miss for you.
