Punxsutawney Phil thinks we have six more weeks of winter, but the heat of this weekend’s show calendar might beg to differ. We have a bevy of sold out shows that a lot of you lucky readers will be checking out, but, for those of you without golden tickets, fear not, your pals at No Country have once again rounded up our picks for another weekend of amazing shows. Check out all of our staff picks here in this week’s edition of TWiN, and make sure you give a loud cheers on Saturday to celebrate 10 years of The Basement!
FRIDAY
ZACH TORRES
@ Soulshine Pizza Factory | 7pm | Free | All Ages
Indie Americana artist Zach Torres is Lightning 100’s Artist of the Week this week, and it’s for good reason. The singer/songwriter’s easy melodies and soft words put listeners into a dreamy reverie, which is particularly welcomed after a long work week. The Texas native now calls Nashville home, and, while he is proud to say that his voice sounds like James Taylor’s, we think he’s got many qualities that make him fantastic all on his own. [BM]
BIRDCLOUD w/ WHITE LIGHTERS, STEP SISTERS, SECRET CLUB
@ The Basement | 9pm | $5 | 21+
The obscene folk-punk duo Birdcloud are kind of like what would happen if the chicks from Broad City lived in the rural South and decided to make an almost-parody band instead of a comedy podcast. They’ll be joined by the new garage group Step Sisters, who we told you released a single that caught our attention last month and are prepping to put out an EP soon. Punks White Lighters and Secret Club round out the bill. [JSa]
BROOKE FRASER w/ DARK WAVES
@ Exit/ In | 9pm | SOLD OUT | 18+
New Zealand born, multi-instrumentlist, pop sensation Brooke Fraser‘s Music City stop with LA synth-popsters Dark Waves has sold out, sorry friends. Better luck next time, but for now we leave with this embed. [JR]

As we already explained in our full preview, beloved indie rockers Cold War Kids are set to return to Music City, riding high on the buzz of their great new album, Hold My Home. Opener Elliot Moss, who sounds something like a more electronic Bon Iver, is also worth showing up early to see. [PO]
UMPHREY’S MCGEE
@ Ryman Auditorium | 8pm | SOLD OUT | All Ages
Surprising to no one, improg jam rockers Umphrey’s McGee have filled the Ryman to capacity, but there’s still a chance to catch their official afterparty with Tauk, a dirt jam-funk band from NYC, at Acme Feed & Seed. If you’re going to the show, rush over fast, we have feeling it will be packed. [JR]
THELMA & THE SLEAZE, SNOW WHIE, PERIOD BOMB, DADDY ISSUES, DATE NIGHT
@ The Pussy Palace | 9pm | $5
Alright, so this one’s technically a house show (details here), but we thought you readers should be aware of it due to the fantastic lineup. Playing will be one of our favorite bands, Thelma & the Sleaze, as well as two acts out of LA: Snow Wite and Period Bomb. Kicking things off will be two more local acts, Daddy Issues and Date Night. If you’re looking to get your face blown off by a bunch of really talented underground artists at a house show this weekend, definitely hit up the Pussy Palace. [JS]

We hope you bought tickets to see Cherub‘s homecoming performance at Marathon Music Works with Mystery Skulls and Fortebowie when we told you about them months ago, because this one is officially SOLD OUT. If you’re not one of the lucky legions who snagged a spot, we recommend hitting up Acme Feed & Seed for the official after party, featuring DJ sets from the band. It runs 11 p.m. – 2 a.m., and it’s free with a Marathon wristband or $10 without. Also, the next morning, Acme will host a hangover brunch with DJ sets from Cherub’s crew, starting at 12pm. [PO]

@ Mercy Lounge | 9pm | $10 | 18+
Site faves Tesla Rossa have been a staple in the local scene for several years running, but, if you’ve somehow managed to miss out on their fantastic live show, or if it’s been a minute, the indie rockers’ headlining outing this weekend at Mercy Lounge, along with locals Luella and Some Fella (formerly Luella and the Sun) and American Hotel should be a killer one!
