The Metric are not only musicians, but also wise, prophetic rulers. I know it sounds outlandish, but listen: They know things we don’t know. They know things we do know, but aren’t willing to admit. We’re stuck in a rut of old ideas and uninspiring motivations. Many of us just revert back to standard, familiar thinking and then we get caught using an outdated, inefficient system that isn’t cool anymore.
“But there is hope!” I said to myself. “Yea, life sucks, but now I really know what it is that sucks and from now on I’m going to do my best to avoid being different for the sake of touting myself.” Now I understand my mistake when I listen to the track “Breathing Underwater,” on Metric’s latest record Synthetica because I finally realized what’s been going on: I’ve been kicking myself in the foot and crawling inch by inch towards an unachievable goal because I’ve been wrongfully clinging onto the past, like a drunk hipster’s loosening grip on a lukewarm, 40 oz bottle of Olde English. When do you get to say: “Out with the old and in with the new?” I believe that time is now. No, I repeat with more conviction: I know that time is now!

Get your tickets here to see Metric play the Ryman on Friday, September 14. You’ll be kilometers ahead of your friends. That’s right, it’s time to go to church, get inspired by someone other than a preacher, and eventually be converted to a Metric fanatic with the enthusiasm of a megajoule.
