Allen Thompson Band - 620

It’s another Tuesday, and it’s another throw down, as our live events wing, No Country Presents, has taken up residence at Lower Broadway’s hippest new restaurant, lounge, retail, and event space, Acme Feed & Seed, where we’ve been bringing you weekly, FREE, Tuesday night showcases, featuring some of our favorite emerging local and national talent. The curated showcase runs from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. each week, and, so far, has featured everything from folk to funk to rock to soul.

For our next installment, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, we’re fittingly bringing it back to the family.  Allen Thompson Band have long been on our radar for their music, but have also become a friend to the scene and our site.  So, it’s definitely exciting to have them on board for a two hour set of joyous camaraderie. Keep reading to find out all about them, and start your holidays off with a present by coming to hang with us.

ALLEN THOMPSON BAND

There’s not really an appropriate label that you can place on Allen Thompson Band, so perhaps we could just create a new category like “alt-genre.”  You can certainly envision the Grateful Dead, The Band, or Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young in their worn out record collection.  You will understand odes to rootsy rockers like The Black Crowes when you hear the country-soul vocals or  Gram  Parsons when you consider the commitment to thoughtful songwriting.  We’ve spent time with Allen Thompson Band in numerous settings at this point, from southern fried jams at Fontanel after parties, to completely stripped down house party sets, to full evenings of hard driving originals.  What’s the common denominator from each of these experiences?  The family band feeling that evokes spontaneous dancing, passionate singalongs, and a welcoming vibe that should be cherished in this age of internet solitude.  Get to know Allen Thompson Band below, and head out for a party that will set you in good spirits for a week of family.

Allen Thompson Band will perform Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Acme Feed & Seed. The show is 21+, music begins at 7:30 p.m., and, per usual, it’s totally FREE. Downtown PARKING can sometimes be an issue. However, if you’re willing to walk a few blocks, street parking is typically easy to find on the numbered avenues south of Broadway, or along Korean Veterans Blvd. Metered spaces are often free after 6 p.m.
