[Preview] Lonesome Shack w/ The Bones of J.R. Jones & Candle Kid | TONIGHT @ Little Lights

If you’re looking for something other than your run-of-the-mill Nashville venue, Little Lights is bringing almost a fireworks show atmosphere to the table. The performances will be headlined by Lonesome Shack along with New York-based The Bones of J.R. Jones and local group Candle Kid. This is not the sort of show that you come to with the expectation of participating in a raging mosh pit; for the first time ever, concert-goers are requested to respectfully remain silent as the performances will be filmed. You’re encouraged to bring pillows, blankets and whatever you may find comfortable to sit on and you will be asked to find a spot on the floor – and to us, this sounds so intriguing that how could we not encourage your attendance? It’s a great way to break through the monotony of the week without waking up with a hangover the next morning, not to mention the fact that you’ll get to bear witness to some excellent out-of-state (and in-state) music without the overzealous mid-week crowds. 

LONESOME SHACK

Born in Seattle, Lonesome Shack consists of three very talented musicians that came into being when guitarist/vocalist New Mexico native Ben Todd relocated to the birth place of Starbucks (not just for the coffee) in 2007. Meeting up with drummer Kristian Garrard, the two joined forces to create Lonesome Shack. After several early LPs, bassist Luke Bergman was initiated and the trio got to work on their full-length albums. The most recent one, More Primitive, was released on May 20th via Alive Naturalsound Records. Now the “haunted boogie” band is coming to Nashville to promote their intriguing music in an intriguing setting for all of you to hear.

THE BONES OF J.R. JONES

With a name that implies that the artist carries around a skeleton in one of the instrument cases (we kind of hope that’s true, because it’d be kind of cool despite being slightly macabre), The Bones of J.R. Jones is all mystery. Apparently the group consists of J.R. Linaberry and his “host of demons.” What he’s trying to say is his one man show really isn’t a one man show: his musical world collides with that of his past to bring to life memories and visions previously thought unseen. His latest LP, Dark Was the Yearling, is the recorded version of this, but tonight you’ll get to see it in person.

CANDLE KID

Nashville-natives Candle Kid is an alternative bluegrass band who amidst all of this mystery stands up to tell it like it is. The five-piece group brings a curious view of bluegrass to the masses, and they’re unafraid to push the boundaries of fascinating, strange and straightforwardness without completely breaking the barriers. Their latest self-titled EP was released in April of this year.

Lonesome Shack, The Bones of J.R. Jones, and Candle Kid will perform on October 22 at Little Lights (1716 Shackleford Road). The show begins at 8PM (doors at 7PM), and tickets are available for $5 at the door.
