JulianCasablancas-620

We’ve been eagerly anticipating the Nashville debut of Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas’ new project, Julian Casablancas+The Voidz, since it was first announced over the summer. Similar to Casablancas’ prior solo work, the band take a weirder, more experimental tone than Julian’s better-known vehicle, and their brand new debut, Tyranny, is one ambitious, layered, and artistic journey. Tickets for the show are still available, and Mr. Twin Sister and Sleepies are set to support. Keep reading for more about the lineup, and be sure to catch them all TONIGHT at Marathon Music Works!

JULIAN CASABLANCAS+THE VOIDZ

Though Casablancas assures us that The Strokes are far from done, Julian Casablancas+The Voidz seems to be a better representation of where his head is as an artist these days. Sadder, more stylized, more synthesized, and, at times, meandering, Tyranny is an ambitious and raw debut, and one sure to appeal to diehard Strokes fans and those with a penchant for the weirder, artsier side of indie rock. We’re expecting this set to be heavy on the solo stuff, but, if it’s your cup of tea, it promises to be one special performance.

MR. TWIN SISTER

Hailing from Long Island, Mr. Twin Sister (formerly Twin Sister) are a dreamy, chill, indie pop outfit who have been making ripples through the blogosphere for the last several years. Their latest, eponymous release is breathtaking, and they add a tranquility to the bill that should be much appreciated.

SLEEPIES

While Mr. Twin Sister overlap with The Voidz on the calmer end of the spectrum, Brooklyn’s Sleepies share more similarities with the headliner’s more energetic, pseudo-punk and indie rock tendencies. They’re a no-brainer for this lineup, and are sure to set the tone right for the evening.

Julian Casablancas+The Voidz, Mr. Twin Sister, and Sleepies will perform tonight, Oct. 21 at Marathon Music Works. The show is 18+, begins at at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $25-28.
