StLucia-620

As we mentioned last month, Brooklyn (by way of South Africa) indie/synthpop artist St. Lucia is set to perform TONIGHT at Cannery Ballroom. While the singer is no stranger to Nashville, having previously opened shows at Marathon Music Works and The Ryman, his last headlining local outing was more than a year and a half ago at considerably smaller space The High Watt. If you’d like to help St. Lucia and openers Joywave graduate to the Cannery, you can do so tonight for just $20. Read on for a preview.

ST. LUCIA

Primarily a solo vehicle for eclectic South African born artist Jean-Philip Grobler, but employing the help of a permanent backing band for live shows, St. Lucia first burst onto the scene with a pair of EPs in 2012, before releasing a full-length debut, When the Night, last year. Exploring dense, electronic, and sweeping tones with huge pop sensibilities and a calm, hypnotic quality, bouncing between synth pop, indie rock, and electronic music, the band are one of a kind, and possess the live performance chops to back their strong records.

JOYWAVE

Upstate New Yorkers Joywave have, just since this summer, been generating a massive amount of buzz in the indie scene thanks to the strength of “Tongues,” the breakout single from their latest EP, How Do You Feel? Like St. Lucia, they boast a wide range of influences and an affinity for the poppier, more electronic side of indie rock, however with a slightly more driving, energetic twist. They’re a perfect compliment to this bill, so be sure to catch them!

St. Lucia and Joywave will perform tonight, Oct. 2, at Cannery Ballroom. The show is 18+, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $20.
