Great Weekend Shows – Cinco de Mayo edition

Other than the fact that you are more likely to wear a funny hat and drink too much tequila, there is no real Cinco de Mayo theme here. But, you still need your excuse to go out and swear off tequila again for another year. Here’s a rundown of things you can check out around Nashville this weekend. Whatever you decide to do… be safe, and get out to see some live music.

Courtney Jaye brings the hula country. Nikki Lane sultry country, and Birdcloud bring straight “cuntry”. You may remember Courtney Jaye from our recent Road To Bonnaroo post. Nikki Lane has made some serious news this week with her opening slot for the Spiritualized tour (Please add a Nashville date for that). Birdcloud continues to fight the good fight by “Saving Themselves For Jesus”. The good times get started over at The Basement around 9pm, and you can check out Nikki Lane’s “Gone, Gone, Gone” below.

If you need more of an electro-pop vibe to embibe tequila, I would suggest heading over to The High Watt for Kyle Andrews w/ The Gills and Cashatt. There has been a lot of press about Andrews and his 2011 release Robot Learn Love. Things get started over at The High Watt around 9pm, and you can check out Robot Learn Love below.

You also have Uncle Skeleton and How I Became The Bomb ripping up Mercy Lounge for Uncle Skeleton’s release party. $5 to get in, while $15 gets you a physical copy. Things get started at 9pm.

If you want to take the kids to see a show where you can have a beer without bad parent guilt, I would definitely recommend Charlie Hunter at The Family Wash tonight. I wonder what Hunter is doing in town playing an intimate gig like this. I can only assume recording. Does anyone have a scoop on that? I would get there early if you want a spot.

Saturday night you can swing by The End to check out Royal Bangs with a “special guest”. They don’t have tequila, so sneak in your own flask (Did I say that with my outside voice?). Things never get started at 9pm there, but that is what time you should start thinking about heading over. Below you can check out “Waking Up Weird”, which is how your tequila filled dome is going to feel on Sunday morning.

Also on Saturday, you have Chicago’s The Bright White which are hitting up The 5 Spot for those of you East siders that are too cheap to get a cab across the river after you drank too much tequila in a funny hat. You can check out this live take of what you are likely to see out of them below.
