Music City Burlesque presents their 2nd Annual Cabin Fever Peep Show (18+) at Marathon Music Works on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 9:30pm and we are giving away tickets (details after the jump)! The evening will be presented with Delinquent Debutantes (local burlesque classes, workshops and parties), Bettie Page Clothing (+photo booth), Black 13 Tattoo, Mis Fit Academy and Hail, and Dark Aesthetics. The lineup will include a Saliba Dance group performance and music from Nashville’s Quiet Entertainer to accompany a cast of ladies who have performed at Katy K’s Girlesque Shows, Bonnaroo, New York Burlesque Festival, Miss Exotic World, The Palace of Wonder and Viva Las Vegas.
The origins of Burlesque date back to the 1840s as a visual artistic expression of dance, comedy, music and freedom. Robert G. Allen said in his book Horrible Prettiness: Burlesque and American Culture that, “The very sight of a female body not covered by the accepted costume of bourgeois respectability forcefully if playfully called attention to the entire question of the “place” of woman in American society.”
It has been said that lower Broadway used to be a peep-show district of sorts itself…
“The revelation of art is not ethics, nor judgement, nor even humanity as one generally thinks of it. Rather, the revelation is a marveling recognition of the radiant Form of forms that shines through all things.”
– Joseph Campbell
LADIES OF THE NIGHT
Kitana Louise will make her Music City Burlesque debut and duet with Shan de Leers, a local and a Memphis Burlesque awarded Best Newcomer. Alethea Austin (appeared in Rock of Ages and Girl Next Door) will perform, a US Pole Dance Federation Champion, gymnast-dance instructor and owner of The Chrome Bar (a pole dance and fitness studio in Nashville). Freya West, who finds “inspiration for a burlesque filled life browsing old bookstores while sneaking sips of whiskey from her hip flask” and B.B. McQueen who worked at Chanel and studied in Paris will add to the night as well. Bettie B. Cupp, Scarlet Wild, Ruby Bellydance with Rose Hips and Lux-O-Matic will perform, a dancer who “…follows only the beat of the drum. When the music starts, her eyes shine and her writhing body overtakes her mind.”
QUIET ENTERTAINER
Anyone who wants to get a nugget of Nashville electronic treasure, try Quiet Entertainer. QE self-describes by asking, What if The Album Leaf, Boards of Canada, & Air started doing Hip-Hop? His unique, heady spectacle of music production is a performance. He spins and molds his set into an introspective experience for both dance and artistic observation.
Download his newest album Intelligent Design for FREE and check out his set opening for MUTEMATH. He will be playing throughout the night to keep up the flow of the night.
