Happy Monday, Nashville! How was your weekend? Mine was fun too, thanks for asking. What are you doing tonight? Me? Oh, I’m going to check out two killer bands for FREE! Nashville’s Those Darlins and Seattle’s indie-folk sweethearts, The Head & The Heart, are both performing tonight at Grimeys in Nashville. Those Darlins get going in Grimeys proper at 6pm, and then lines will surely be forming right next door for the just announced intimate in-store experience with festival mainstays The Head & The Heart at Grimeys Too at 7:30pm. Both events are free… that’s right, free. We’ve run down a little bit about both acts with some Monday listening below.
THOSE DARLINS
Local rockers Those Darlins made a quite a splash with their recent cryptic cover art over Grimeys pub stunt. If the music alone hasn’t made you take notice of the Darlins, that mostly bare cover art definitely did. With the release of their third full length, Blur The Line, today on Oh Wow Dang, Those Darlins are ready to hit the ground running starting tonight at 6pm over at Grimeys for their release party. We were/are big fans of their previous two full length releases, and, specifically, their 2011 release, Screws Get Loose, has essentially disintegrated from use on our turntable. After listening to “Oh God” from Blur The Lines, we anticipate the same fate for the new record too.
THE HEAD & THE HEART
Seattle Washington based poppy indie folksters The Head & The Heart were just announced over the weekend to perform at Grimeys Too. It never ceases to amaze me how all these incredible bands end up performing so intimately for us lucky locals over at Grimeys. I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising that The Head & The Heart would feel totally at home doing an in-store though. After forming in 2009 in Seattle, they played to pretty much anyone that would listen in hopes that someone would take notice, and folks, including label Sub Pop, definitely did. Catchy hit singles like “Rivers and Roads” and “Down In The Valley” from their debut self-titled LP landed the six-piece at festivals all over the country, including our own Bonnaroo in 2011. This little stop over in Nashville will be their only stop on their current tour in support of their new record, Let’s Be Still, due out on October 15th. You can have a listen to “Shake” from that upcoming release below, and get over there early to make sure you get in.
Those Darlins will perform tonight (9/30) at 6pm at Grimeys. The Head And The Heart will perform tonight at Grimeys Too at 7:30. Both events are all ages and free.
