Though she’s only 23-years-old, breakout, soulful English r&b and pop singer Lola Young has been writing music for more than a decade, and first began attracting attention as a teen, winning a national open mic contest at 13, and attending famed creative and performing arts institute The BRIT School, in the footsteps of icons like Adele and Amy Winehouse (two artists that she’s been compared to). Born to musical parents and raised in South London, Young landed a record deal upon graduation, and released her first project, mini album Intro, in 2019, while still just 18. It was a 2021 cover of ’80s hit “Together in Electric Dreams,” featured in the annual John Lewis Christmas advertising campaign, though, which first attracted a wider audience, and landed Lola on the shortlist for the Rising Star award at the 2022 BRITs. 2023’s My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely marked the multifaceted singer’s full-length debut (she tends to refer to it more as a “project” than an “album,” though it fits the bill for the latter), and with its vibey, earnest, electro-laced pop and alt-r&b sound, and deeply personal lyricism, it helped the young singer connect with a whole new audience, and made her an unexpected star on TikTok.

Young followed up her first album quickly with this summer’s This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway, a bolder, more confident and unique effort which expands her sonic reach to more energetic, modern, and experimental realms, and even more vulnerable and personal lyrics. Easily one of the best albums of 2024, Lola is embarking on her most expansive run of North American shows to date in support, bringing her to Nashville for the first time ever on Oct. 1, to headline Exit/In! We have no doubt that Lola Young is going to be an even bigger, more renowned artist in no time, and seeing her in a smaller club Exit/In is an opportunity you don’t want to pass up. Just a handful of tickets remain, and you can get them right here. If you’d rather try your luck, however, we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Listen to Lola and enter for a chance to win below.
