Though she’s played Nashville countless times over the last decade- at Bridgestone Arena in support of Alanis Morissette earlier this summer and in support of Bryan Adams last year; in support of Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Poison at Nissan Stadium in 2022; several shows at Ascend Amphitheater in the 2010s support of artists like Heart and Styx; and a couple more Bridgestone shows with the likes of Journey and The Who- it’s not often that the legendary Joan Jett and her band The Blackhearts makes it to Music City for a proper headliner. In fact, the only time she appears to have done so in the last decade was in 2021, at The Ryman Auditorium, and The Ryman is where she’ll return tonight, Aug. 25, just two months after rocking Bridgestone Arena on that aforementioned Alanis tour.
While still in her teens in the ’70s, Joan founded seminal and short-lived punk group The Runaways, whose songs like “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise” remain ubiquitous, trailblazing rock classics. Following the band’s 1979 split, however, Jett famously launched an iconic solo career, forming a backing band she dubbed The Blackhearts (which has featured something of a revolving door of members over the decades), and becoming hugely famous for songs like “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘n Roll,” “Crimson and Clover,” “Do You Wanna Touch Me?,” and “I Hate Myself for Loving You” in the ’80s, a mix of inspired covers and originals which saw her sound shift from her punk rock origins to a more hard rock bent.
Though her output has slowed down a bit since the early ’90s, Joan has continued to make music, with more than a dozen albums to her name and her most recent EP, Mindsets, arriving last year. She’s also remained a powerful and celebrated live force, regularly touring with a host of legendary acts, has been occasionally acting in film and TV projects since the late ’80s, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for her influential career, including an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Though, certainly, she’ll be back in Nashville sooner than later, likely supporting some other great, beloved legacy rock act, a chance to see Joan Jett somewhere as intimate and special as The Ryman is one we encourage you not to pass on. Tickets are still available here, and rising country artist Karley Scott Collins is set to open the show. Don’t miss out!
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Karley Scott Collins will perform tonight, Aug. 25 at The Ryman Auditorium. The show is all ages, begins at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.), and tickets are available for $59.75-129.75.
