What began as a band in the 2000s, and continued on as a solo moniker following the group’s split in 2009, Passenger is the musical alias of English singer-songwriter Michael Rosenberg, who began seriously making music as a teen, going so far as to drop out of school to pursue it full-time. After a few years of busking around England and, later, Australia, and releasing several solo albums in quick succession, it was 2012 fourth LP All the Little Lights, propelled by massive, breakout single “Let Her Go,” which shot Passenger to international fame, landing him on tour with longtime friend Ed Sheeran, who was also experiencing huge, newfound success at the time, and has long championed Passenger as a supporter and collaborator. Renowned for her earnest, pop accessible, indie folk sound, Rosenberg has remained incredibly prolific in the more than decade since first breaking out, releasing an impressive nine further studio albums since Little Lights, where he’s experimented with different sonic palettes, and retained an approachable, intimate style, opting to independently release his latest original work, Birds That Flew and Ships That Sailed, in 2022.
Most recently, the multifaceted singer re-recorded his most famous LP, released last year as All the Little Lights (Anniversary Edition), and featuring new duets with artists like Ed Sheeran, Gabrielle Aplin, Foy Vance and Nina Nesbitt. Passenger played Nashville on the regular in the 2010s, appearing everywhere from Mercy Lounge and Cannery Ballroom to Marathon Music Works to Live on the Green, but, despite several new records in the interim, his last Nashville outing was way back in 2018. That makes his long-awaited return, Aug. 30 at The Ryman Auditorium with fellow alt/indie singer-songwriter SYML, all the more essential for longtime fans. Tickets are still available right here, but we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky winner! Preview the lineup and enter below.
