Søren Hansen & Jacob Kulick Celebrate Upcoming LPs with Co-Headlining Show at The Basement Tonight, May 23

Two local transplants who are both preparing to release new albums in the coming weeks, Søren Hansen and Jacob Kulick also happen to be labelmates, producers, and collaborators, and are both showcasing something of a deeply personal period of musical reinvention with their latest LPs- Søren’s eponymous Søren Hansen and Kulick’s Nostalgia is a Thing of the Past– which the pair will preview with an intimate co-headlining show tonight, May 23 at The Basement! Coming at a pivotal moment for both artists, and sure to feature lots of friends and familiar faces, this is an event you don’t want to miss, and tickets are still available right here.

Best known for his role as co-founder and multi-instrumentalist of alternative and pop rock outfit New Politics, who scored some inescapable hits in the 2010s with songs like “Harlem” and “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” and toured the world with massive bands like Fall Out Boy and twenty one pilots, Søren Hansen was born and raised in Denmark, but moved to New York with frontman David Boyd shortly after forming the band. New Politics would release five LPs over the course of a decade, before going on something of a hiatus not long after 2019’s An Invitation to an Alternate Reality, around the same time Hansen moved to Nashville. Since he’s been in Music City, Søren has leaned into his lifelong passion for music production, running his own studio and helming recent and forthcoming releases for some familiar local favorites like Sam Palladio, Striking Matches, and The Narrative’s Suzie Zeldin, as well as working with acclaimed producer Butch Walker. Along the way, he also began creating music once again as a solo artist, signing a deal with ENCI Records and crafting his eponymous full-length solo debut, Søren Hansen, which will arrive June 21. Over the past few months, he’s released some fantastic singles in advance- serving as something of an artistic reintroduction and the product of many years of hard work and creativity- “Dream That I Die,” “No Angels Below,” “Zoned Out,” and “Water Under Bridges,” all of which showcase more of a lush, earnest, indie and alt-pop style, and mark an exciting next era for the accomplished rocker.

Hailing originally from small town Pennsylvania, Jacob Kulick learned to write and self-produce music as a teen and played in bands in high school before going to college for audio engineering. After relocating to New York and finding some early traction as an independent artist, Jacob inked a major label deal and changed his artist name to KULICK, honing a pop accessible alt rock sound that helped him reach a wider audience and tour more extensively in the late 2010s. After relocating to Nashville last year, the singer, songwriter, and producer found something of a fresh start, returning to making music under his full name, and recording an album with Søren’s co-production and friends from Elle King’s band backing him in the studio, resulting in Nostalgia is a Thing of the Past, due out May 31 via ENCI Records. More intimate and stripped-down than his other recent work, many of the songs on Kulick’s latest were years in the making, and serve as both an artistic reintroduction and an important new chapter in the multifaceted artist’s impressive musical journey.

Needless to say, it’s an especially exciting time to see both Hansen and Kulick live, and you can preview new songs from both below!

Søren Hansen and Jacob Kulick will perform tonight, May 23 at The Basement. The show is 21+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8:30 p.m.), and tickets are available for $15.
