Jenny Lewis to Play The Ryman March 13

Few artists have been as integral or prolific in the indie rock scene of the last 25 years as Jenny Lewis, who, across multiple projects and an incredible solo career has cemented her legacy as one of the all-time greats. Born in Las Vegas and for many years based in Southern California (though, notably, she now calls Nashville home), Lewis got her start in the ’80s as a child actress, appearing in films, television, and commercials, a career path which would continue into her teens in the ’90s, before segueing out of acting and into music with the formation of her first iconic group, Rilo Kiley, in 1998. The LA indie rockers amassed a large following and critical acclaim, releasing four albums over the following decade, before hanging it up at the start of the 2010s. At the same time, Jenny was contributing to works from artists like Cursive and The Postal Service (with whom she’s served as a third member, singing on their classic and LP and reconvening with the group on their 2013 anniversary tour and their ongoing 20th this year and next), and also teamed up with The Watson Twins for her folky and soulful first solo effort, Rabbit Fur Coat, in 2006. A year after Rilo Kiley dropped what would be their final album, Lewis furthered her solo reach with 2008 twang-infused sophomore effort Acid Tongue. After a comparatively artistically quiet (though personally tumultuous) few years, which included the release of the one and only album from her side project Jenny & Johnny, I’m Having Fun Now, with then-boyfriend Johnathan Rice, as well as the aforementioned first Postal Service reunion, Jenny returned with 2014’s The Voyager, finding a whole new audience and met universal praise. The subsequent tour would see the singer appear at dozens of high-profile festivals and performances across the globe, and in the following years Jenny formed a new side project and released an eponymous debut, Nice As Fuck, toured with numerous huge acts like Harry Styles, and dropped a fitting followup solo effort, On the Line, in 2019.

2023 has been something of a whirlwind year for Lewis. In June, she released her highly-anticipated, Dave Cobb-produced new album Joy’All, a breezy, soulful, contemplative, and earnest work that’s been critically lauded. That same month, she played three shows around her adopted home of Nashville, opening for Rustin Kelly at Ascend, celebrating Joy’All‘s release with a surprise show at Eastside Bowl, then returning to Bonnaroo for the first time in over a decade. She next supported Phoenix and Beck on a handful of summer tour dates, then, throughout the fall, she rocked arenas across the nation on The Postal Service’s must-see 20th anniversary reunion (which will extend into next year with an April 29 show at Bridgestone Arena). Once that wrapped, Lewis finally found time for a headlining west coast tour in support of Joy’All, and now, before resuming her reunion with The Postal Service next spring, she’s extended her that “Joy’All Ball” run with more shows in February and March, returning Jenny to Nashville for her largest formal headliner in a few years, March 13 at The Ryman Auditorium with Texan singer-songwriter Hayden Pedigo and, just for Nashville, local artist Logan Ledger.
