Most famous for fronting beloved, long-running Florida punk outfit Against Me!, rocker Laura Jane Grace has proven herself to be just as impressive and essential as a solo artist, since, spurred by the pandemic, her band went on an indefinite hiatus in early 2020. While, technically, Grace released her first solo EP way back in ’08, it was 2018’s Bought to Rot, presented under the moniker Laura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers, which really kicked off this chapter of her solo artistry. Though The Devouring Mothers were sort of a band, featuring contributing players who also backed the singer on tour, since 2020 she’s been making music under just her own name, first with the surprise release of her sophomore full-length, Stay Alive, that year, and a subsequent EP, At War with the Silverfish, in 2021. While not a far cry from her propulsive, raw punk sound with Against Me! (which spanned 23 years and seven albums), Grace has leaned into more influences of folk, pop, and more minimalist, rootsy rock in balance with her signature punk rock bite, which echoes Against Me!’s early days as a scrappy folk punk band.

Following some time on the throughout this year performing intimate acoustic shows- including a return to Nashville to play The Blue Room- Laura has announced that her long-awaited third LP, Hole in My Head, will arrive February 16 through Polyvinyl, and over the last few months has given us a preview with a string of new singles: folky and earnest anthem “Dysphoria Hoodie,” propulsive power pop title track “Hole in My Head,” and just-released, vulnerable mediation “Cuffing Season.” Currently in the midst of a handful of winter dates, the singer recently announced another run of U.S. shows throughout the spring, including a March 17 performance at Nashville’s City Winery! Though not the first place that springs to mind for a punk show, City Winery’s intimate vibe and great sound meshes will with Laura’s recent musical direction. Rather than purely acoustic this time around, the rocker will be backed by bassist Matt Patton and drummer Mikey Erg, and enduring local rockers Thelma and the Sleaze as well as Florida emo punks Dikembe will support. The show went on sale a couple of weeks ago, but plenty of great seats are still available right here. Hear Laura Jane Grace’s latest singles below!
