It hasn’t even been a year since famed English indie art pop outfit The 1975 last played Nashville, headlining Municipal Auditorium last November in support of then-new fifth album Being Funny in a Foreign Language. In the months since, the band- who’ve become something of a generation-defining group over their prolific last decade, since erupting onto the scene with their eponymous debut in 2013- have only continued to climb in popularity and to grow their passionate following as a must-see live act, so it’s no surprise that their latest tour of North America, the first leg of their Still… At Their Very Best world tour, is their biggest stateside run yet. And, for their Nashville return tonight, Oct. 22, they’re set to headline Bridgestone Arena for the first time, along with breakout alt-pop artist Dora Jar! Though it was announced as sold out months ago, we’re seeing lots of tickets- both face value and resale- on Ticketmaster, and some really great deals on third-party sites like StubHub, if you’re comfortable going that route.

Though not without their controversy- particularly surrounding frontman Matty Healy- The 1975 have evolved from a scrappy, straightforward emo pop rock outfit to something really critically beloved and resonant across their five albums, gravitating to a sound that’s much more lush, artsy, experimental, electro-infused, and maximalist, packing a sonic gut-punch and loads of emotional resonance and raw, lyrical vulnerability. Formed initially 20 years ago while still in their teens, the band’s long history also helped make their live show much more engrossing and refined than many new bands could hope for right out of the gate, and over the years they’ve built out their live sound with backing players, and grown their production from a minimalist black and white of their early days to a huge, vibrant, and mesmerizing visual aesthetic (their last performance here was decorated almost like a play). They truly are one of the most relevant and interesting groups making music today, and they’ve indicated their desire to take a long break from performing after this tour, making their latest return to Music City seem all the more essential!

The 1975 and Dora Jar will perform tonight, Oct. 22 at Bridgestone Arena. The show is all ages, begins at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.), and tickets are available here.
