JORDY Collabs with Joy Oladokun & Encourages Nashville’s LGBTQ+ Community | Playing Basement East on April 20

JORDY‘s Nashville show at the Basement East on April 20 hits on the eve of the release for sophomore album BOY. The LA-based pop artist’s collab with Nashville’s Joy Oladokun on “i get high” is a standout example of how Nashville songwriters and artists continue to expand their profile globally outside of the realm of country music.

“Joy Oladokun is one of our generation’s most powerful voices; and I am extremely lucky to be able to call her a friend, and now, a collaborator,” JORDY commented. “When I was thinking about who would be a good addition to my song ‘i get high,’ I thought of Joy immediately. A part of me giggled thinking about the times we’ve been able to share a joint or two, but the other part of me felt emotional about it; when it comes to cannabis, she understands me, and I understand her. It is our escape, it is our coping, it is our celebration.”

“When Joy sent me her verse I nearly broke down into tears,” he continues. “‘I just wanna heal without having to be scarred, I just wanna see something underneath all the things that feel so dark…so I light a fire.’ The meaning behind her words is far more beautiful than I could have ever imagined, and I feel endlessly grateful that she wanted to be a part of this.”

As a GLAAD Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist, JORDY arrives in Nashville at a time where our local LGBTQ+ community needs more love and support than ever. Despite Tennessee’s legislature attacking drag artists and LGBTQ+ rights, our city remains a place to celebrate and welcome queer creatives.

“With all of the hurtful legislation going on right now, the Transgender Community is the community that needs the most love, support, and protection. It’s so important that we all rally together in support of each other during this challenging time,” JORDY says. “I always hope that my concerts are a safe space for everyone to be their authentic selves, and I want the LGBTQ+ community in Nashville to know that they are seen, valued, and loved.”
