Named for the Bayside neighborhood of their native Queens, New York, Bayside, half of whom have been Nashville-based for a number of years, formed in 2000 and, due to swift underground buzz, inked a deal with Victory Records ahead of their breakthough debut effort, 2004’s Sirens and Condolences. The band’s eponymous followup, Bayside, a year later would further help cement them as a scene staple, since finding a legacy as a classic effort of ’00s pop punk, and set them on a course to embark on increasingly high-profile tours, including numerous stints on Warped Tour, landing a dependable cult following and mainstream buzz. 2007’s The Walking Wounded would land as yet another defining album of the pop punk boom of the aughts, and would reinforce Bayside’s legacy as one of the scene’s best acts, even if their mainstream popularity never quite reached the commercial heights of some of their more pop-leaning peers. Weathering pop punk’s mainstream decline more effectively than some of their peers (especially the ones who just hopped on the bandwagon and emulated what Bayside and other acts helped shape in the early ’00s), Bayside would remain fairly prolific into the 2010s, organically shifting from the punk, pop punk, emo, and post-hardcore that characterized their early work, to a sound more informed by alternative and even indie rock, proving adventurous and versatile over nine excellent LPs.
Though things have been a little slower post-pandemic (the band has continued to tour, while members have also shifted some focus to other solo projects as well), Bayside’s latest LP, There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive, finally arrived last year, five years after their last. and proved yet another strong late-career effort, both channeling the aesthetic of their early work, while also exploring new musical territories. On their current tour though, which the band have dubbed The Errors Tour (a play on T-Swift’s Eras Tour, since it adopts a similar concept), Bayside are celebrating not just their latest album, but their entire 25-year existence, marking that anniversary milestone with two shows in each city, each with entirely different sets pulling from half of their prolific discography. The tour hits Nashville Sept. 11 and 12 at Eastside Bowl, with night one featuring songs from 2004’s Sirens and Condolences, 2005’s Bayside, 2007’s The Walking Wounded, and 2008’s Shudder, and night two featuring songs from 2011’s Killing Time, 2014’s Cult, 2016’s Vacancy, 2018’s Interrobang, and 2024’s There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive. Tickets are available as single-day (9/11 here, 9/12 here), or as a 2-day pass here, for those who want the full experience, and Long Island post-hardcore group The Sleeping, who reunited in 2023 after a decade away, will open both shows. We’re thrilled to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to each show; enter for the Sept. 11 below, and enter for the Sept. 12 show here!
