One of the preeminent pop punk bands of the 2010s- a decade which saw the return to a more visceral, emotionally resonant, and authentic sound after a more overproduced and commodified take on pop punk ruled the late 2000s- The Story So Far first formed in Walnut Creek, California, while still in high school. The band rose to prominence in 2011, after inking a deal with Pure Noise Records and releasing their debut album, Under Soil and Dirt, which received widespread acclaim within the pop punk and emo community. 2013’s What You Don’t See and 2015’s eponymous The Story So Far would prove just as buzzworthy and widely beloved, cementing the group’s status as one of pop punks most essential new torchbearers, introducing them to a wider audience, and leading to tours with countless other renowned bands in their scene.

After slowing things down a bit after a whirlwind several years, The Story So Far shifted from their typical edgy, melodic, emo and post-hardcore informed style of pop punk to a more mature, indie and alt rock infused sound with 2018 fourth LP Proper Dose. More touring would follow, including a major run with Blink-182, as well as some lineup changes (longtime bassist Kelen Capener departed, drummer Ryan Torf moved to rhythm guitar, and two touring members were recruiting to fill things out), and, of course, a forced slowdown for the pandemic, leading to the widest gap between records in the band’s history, with long-awaited fifth album, I Want to Disappear, finally landing in 2024. The first full-length of their 30s, the group’s latest still feels true to their pop punk roots, while also informed by the maturity, complexity, and musical evolution of the decade prior; a perfect encapsulation of one of the genre’s most interesting bands, now almost 20 years in to their existence.

No strangers to Music City, The Story So Far have played the Nashville area countless times over the last 15 years, including both a headlining show and in support of A Day to Remember just last year. When they return, Sept. 20 with pop punk peers Neck Deep, emo duo Origami Angel, and hardcore punks Pain of Truth, though, it’ll be an extra special affair, because it’s taking place at The Caverns in nearby Pelham. As we feel inclined to mention any time we tell you about a show at The Caverns, this venue is one of the most unparalleled concert experiences you can have anywhere, hosting performances underground in a literal cave (see below), and we think it’s always worth the trek from Nashville anytime an artist we love is on the calendar. Tickets are still available right here while they last, but we’re thrilled to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets and a camping pass to one lucky winner as well! Preview the lineup and enter below.
