Bonnaroo Artist | Remi Wolf
Bonnaroo History | 2023
Stage & Time | Sunday | What Stage | 5:15-6:15pm
Like we’ve been doing for many years now, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with many of our favorite acts from Bonnaroo‘s 2025 lineup. A festival that feels like it’s ever evolving (especially with some big tweaks and improvements in the past few summers post-pandemic), this year marks Bonnaroo’s 22nd installment (and 24th anniversary), boasting not only another great and varied lineup, but also some exciting additions like the brand new, high-tech Infinity Stage, billed as “the world’s largest 360-degree, immersive sound experience” and unlike anything that’s ever been showcased in North America. Back once again in its usual June 12-15 timeframe, we’re counting down the days until another great weekend on the farm.
As we dig through the entire schedule, we’ll highlight a spread of performers spanning across genres and stages, big and small, new and old, to bring you some of the most interesting, lesser-known, and most highly-recommended among this year’s crop of artists. And as our time at ‘Roo approaches, we’ll also be bringing you some special features and full list-style daily lineup guides, to help you plan your weekend ahead of the fest. While these previews won’t span every artist, and might omit some more obvious must-see acts, we hope they’ll serve as a way to help you navigate Bonnaroo’s gargantuan lineup, and to make the most of your busy weekend at the fest!
We’re told tickets are very low and on track to sell out, so grab those right here if you haven’t already (and don’t forget the camping or parking pass), and read on for our Bonnaroo Artist Spotlight!
LEARN
Los Angeles based, Palo Alto raised funky, experimental indie pop artist Remi Wolf has been living life and making art fiercely on her own terms for years, and it’s that unrelenting personal style and aesthetic that has quickly positioned as one of the most buzzworthy new artists in the pop scene, ascending from cool up and comer to bona fide star throughout the 2020s, and first landing her a spot at Bonnaroo two years ago (after initially being slated to play in 2021, the year the fest was rained out). Raised by “pretty weird and very confident” parents, Wolf juggled an early interest in music with a budding career as a Youth Olympic skier, eventually putting her athletic ambitions aside to attend USC to further study music, at the time obsessing over classic LA punk and funk, and radio-primed pop, rock, and R&B, all while honing her sound as a writer with longtime collaborator Jared Solomon. Upon graduation, Remi quickly captured attention online for her genre-bending and confident debut EP, You’re a Dog, in 2019, giving way to a major label deal with Island, who released follow-up EP, I’m Allergic to Dogs, the following year year, spawning the viral TikTok single “Photo ID” (a song which would later be re-released with Dominc Fike, becoming an even more massive hit). Wolf spent the pandemic writing what would become her debut LP, Juno, named for the dog she adopted during that time who was her companion throughout the process, which dropped in late 2021 to rave reviews. 2020 also saw the young singer combat a growing problem with substance abuse by going to rehab and getting sober, an experience reflected in buzzy single “Liquor Store,” one of the more personal and confessional songs on Juno, which can sometimes be more off-the-cuff and avant-garde in theme. Though her visual aesthetic, both in her attire and music video choices, is bright and colorful and psychedelic, Wolf’s music is far less definable, jumping between musical influences and alternating between mainstream pop accessibility and refreshingly weird individuality, earning the budding star some impressive fans like Nile Rodgers, Beck, John Mayer, and Willow Smith, tours with big acts like Lorde and Olivia Rodrigo, and appearances at a whole host of major fests in addition to ‘Roo. After a whirlwind couple of years thanks to Juno, Remi dropped her sophomore LP, Big Ideas, last summer, building on the template of her earlier work, but landing as a more mature, earnest, and refined work, really showcasing her artistic growth and immense pop writing knack. Singles like “Cinderella” have quickly become viral hits, as Wolf’s fanbase has continued to grow steadily, as evidenced by her impressive main stage slot for her Bonnaroo return, and the fact that she’s curating the SuperJam on Saturday, dubbed “Remi Wolf’s Insanely Fire 1970’s Pool Party SuperJam.” Last time we called her a breakout up and comer; this time- between the SuperJam, the upgraded stage, and the success of Big Ideas– we’d call her an essential indie pop star of the moment, and one should be be on your must-see list on the farm!
