Formed more than 30 years ago in their native Tulsa, Oklahoma while still just kids, pop rock brother trio Hanson were only between 11 and 16 years old when they skyrocketed to international superstardom with their breakout, classic 1997 mega-hit “MMMBop” from their multi-platinum major label debut LP, Middle of Nowhere. Though the widespread Hanson-mania cooled after the late ’90s (if you’re not a millennial, it’s hard to describe just how GIGANTIC the trio were following their debut), and the group went independent around the turn of the millennium, they’ve stayed active and deeply popular throughout the decades since, literally growing up as a band, and maturing and evolving their music accordingly. Though they’ve continued to tour and release albums a pretty regular clip, from soulful pop rock to Christmas albums to experiments in symphonic arrangements, across numerous LPs, EPs, and compilations (their latest full-length, Red Green Blue, arrived in 2022), and performing both in celebration of new material and in honor of their classics, Hanson’s latest tour marks something special and different.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of their 2004 independent debut, Underneath (which broke records for a self-released album at the time), Hanson are hitting a number of cities throughout the fall for two-night stops dubbed “The Underneath Experience Tour,” where, on night one, they’ll perform an acoustic set and night two they’ll dial it up with electric (and, of course, play plenty of hits beyond just Underneath). The tour brings them back to Nashville to headline Cannery Hall’s Mainstage on Oct. 30 & 31, with singer-songwriter John Calvin Abney tapped to support the first, acoustic show and long-running alt rock outfit Phantom Planet opening the electric, second night. A special, separately ticketed after-party DJ set will also go down after the first night, hosted by the group’s Taylor Hanson, and a discounted two-night ticket is available for those wanted to get the full experience. You can get tickets while they last here (10/30), here (10/31), or here (both), but we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets for each show to one lucky fan!
