Hailing from Dallas, Texas, booming, percussive, and genre-bending hip hop artist BigXthaPlug got serious about music after a brief college football career was halted due to legal troubles, ultimately leading to a short stint in prison, during which the rapper began writing lyrics and entertaining more grand musical ambitions. Bursting onto the scene with some early EPs, BigX’s 2023 debut full-length, Amar, named for his young son, proved to be a breakout moment, particularly for southern-drenched single “Texas.” A subsequent EP, The Biggest, would follow, and spawn another viral single, “Mmhmm,” with the rapper drawing acclaim for his smooth, hypnotic flow, broad musical influences like r&b and country, and fresh yet classic production. Forming his own label, 600 Entertainment, BigX signed fellow buzzy up and coming rappers Ro$ama and Yung Hood, and trio collaborated on a really fantastic project, Meet the 6ixers, earlier this year, showcasing the best of their individual styles.
Even more recently, BigXthaPlug returned with his second full length, Take Care, just a few weeks ago, landing as undoubtedly his best effort to date, boasting more serious and self-reflective lyrical prowess, elevated and genre-bending production, and more focus and passion. In support, the breakout artist is about to kick off tour with his aforementioned collaborators Ro$ama and Yung Hood (who also have some great recent records out), and will hit Nashville’s Eastside Bowl on Oct. 28 for what looks like his first Music City headliner ever (after opening for Kevin Gates late last year at Bridgestone). Limited tickets remain right here, but if you’d like to try your luck, we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan; preview the lineup and enter below.
