It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since Long Beach bluesy indie rockers Cold War Kids first got together, and nearly just as long since they exploded onto the scene to an unheard of level of buzz with their debut, Robbers & Cowards, winning over legions of fans and critics alike and becoming one of the preeminent acts of the flourishing 2000s indie scene. In the two decade since, the band have remained strong, churning out some quality successive releases and ascending to a live juggernaut and festival staple, perfecting their early sound across a prolific run of releases, and recapturing the spirit of their debut (and spawning their biggest single to date, “First”) a decade after their formation with 2014 fifth album Hold My Home. The second decade of their career has been just as fruitful, despite some lineup changes (of the OG lineup, only vocalist Nathan Willett and bassist Matt Maust remain), marking a shift to a more modern, honed, and hook-laden sound on 2017 LP L.A. Divine, and crafting an ambitious trio of interconnected full-lengths called New Age Norms 1-3 from 2019 to 2021.
Most recently, and marking an impressive 10th LP in 20 years, Cold War Kids dropped a self-reflective, eponymous full-length last year, followed up this spring by an EP called CWK, and are marking two decades as a band with an anniversary tour, set to bring them back to Nashville on Oct. 26 to headline Cannery Hall’s Mainstage with Oklahoma indie outfit Husbands. They’ve been regulars in Music City over the years, performing everywhere from The Basement to Third Man to Marathon Music Works to Live on the Green, and most recently opened for Tears For Fears last year at FirstBank Amphitheater. Their latest stop marks their first local headliner in several years though, and with two decades of great records to celebrate, it’s sure to be a memorable show. You can still get tickets right here while they last, but we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Preview the lineup and enter below.
