Hailing originally from Maryland, genre-bending singer Maggie Rose first relocated to Nashville during college, to pursue her lifelong passion for music, and found early success in the country scene, inking (then subsequently leaving) a major label record deal, and adopting a soulful, rootsy, classic country sound and showcase of her powerful vocals with 2013 debut LP, Cut to Impress. Rose never seemed content to simply be boxed into the country world though (and has also been vocal about mainstream country’s marginalization of women), and through a series of singles, EPs, and eventually 2018 sophomore LP Change the Whole World, Maggie began flexing her range and pushing her style to incorporate more southern soul, blues, r&b, gospel, rocks rock, pop, and even hip hop elements, leading to broader recognition and appearances at fests like Bonnaroo and CMA. For her third album, 2021’s Have a Seat, Maggie recorded in Muscle Shoals with Alabama Shakes’ Ben Tanner, leaning even more heavily into soul, r&b, and even funk, and continued to draw critical acclaim and attract a wider range of new fans.
With her latest and fourth album, the recently-released No One Gets Out Alive (again helmed by Tanner), Maggie has once again taken a bold new artistic leap, combining the soul and country and folk and pop rock she’s been cultivating for the last decade, and infusing it with a retro, grand, lush, and cinematic folk rock channeling the 1970s Laurel Canyon sound. It is, without a doubt, her best, most ambitious, and fitting work to date, and perhaps one of the most successful musical evolutions of an artist who started out making conventional country since Kacey Musgraves. In celebration of the new LP, Maggie Rose is set to headline Brooklyn Bowl Nashville this Friday, May 10, along with Fancy Hagood (a local singer whose career trajectory has mirrored Maggie’s in reverse, starting in more mainstream pop and evolving more recently into a celebrated alt-country artist who embraces his queer identity in his art) and Kansas City born, Nashville based rootsy soul and r&b singer Crystal Rose. Tickets are still available right here, but we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Preview all of the performers and enter below.
