Formed initially in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, who largely wrote and recorded 2001 debut Feel Good Lost themselves, it was the following year’s sophomore effort, Your Forgot It in People, where Broken Social Scene truly morphed into the acclaimed, expansive Canadian indie rock collective we know and love, incorporating friends and collaborators (many of whom came into the mix to help perform their debut live) to craft the group’s most enduring and fan-favorite record, which also became their commercial breakthrough. Though their lineup has always been somewhat fluid (and members have been part of other famed acts like Metric, Feist, and Stars), BSS have remained active in the 20 years since, crafting three more great LPs (2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record notably hit #1 on the Canadian charts), touring, and influencing countless other indie acts, as one of the preeminent, coolest, and most important groups of the 2000s.

In celebration of You Forgot It in People‘s 20th anniversary, Broken Social Scene embarked on a brief trek of North America last fall- their first tour in several years, which was extended with another run this fall, bringing them back to Nashville tonight, Oct. 6 at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville, for their first Music City show since a 2018 performance at Third Man Records (and first in a larger space in more than a decade). Canadian pop/rock singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas is set to open, and tickets are still available here. If you’re an indie rock fan over 30, we probably don’t need to tell you how special this performance will be, or how monumentally important the album it’s celebrating is, but a chance to see Broken Social Scene performing You Forgot It in People in full, at a rare stop in Music City, makes this easily one of the most essential shows of the year. Don’t miss out!

Broken Social Scene and Hannah Georgas will perform tonight, Oct. 6 at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville. The show is 18+, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.), and tickets are available for $45.80.
