Formed nearly a decade ago, briefly as a dream pop band, in Chicago, Deeper cut their teeth in their hometown’s flourishing indie rock scene of the 2010s, forging a cool, propulsive, and fresh indie sound by the release of their eponymous 2018 debut LP. Lots of touring, festival appearances, critical accolades, and online buzz would follow, as well as some early lineup shuffles, and by 2020 sophomore effort Auto-Pain, Deeper had begun to resonate with a wider audience, and also further hone their musical identity, incorporating nostalgic, resonant elements of post-punk in equal measure with their buzzy indie rock. Though Covid abruptly cut short their tour cycle around that second album, the band’s momentum continued on, and earlier this year, they inked a deal with famed label Sub Pop ahead of their third LP- and best to date- last month’s Careful!
Out in support of their latest- a more polished, ambitious, layered, and conceptual work that leans further into their post-punk influences, Deeper are set to play The Blue Room at Third Man Records tonight, Oct. 2, along with genre-bending, Brooklyn-based indie and art rock outfit Godcaster and local jangly, indie puns Impediment! If you like interesting, substantive, slightly off-kilter punk and indie rock, and you’re looking for something a little more under the radar, this show is a must-see, and tickets are still available right here while they last; don’t miss out.
Deeper, Godcaster, and Impediment will perform tonight, Oct. 2 at The Blue Room. The show is all ages, begin at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $25.88.
