Aside from an appearance at Vanderbilt’s annual Commodore Quake concert series in 2017, just a few months after she released her massive, critically-acclaimed, star-making debut studio album Ctrl, and an early appearance at Bonnaroo, way back in 2015, beloved R&B and pop singer SZA has rarely made it to Music City over the last decade, since her beginnings as an independent artist. Tonight, Sept. 24, however, the in-demand artist finally makes her long-overdue return to Nashville, bringing her sprawling world tour for last year’s viral, resonant, and universally lauded sophomore studio effort SOS to Bridgestone Arena with breakout young artist d4vd! Though this is a highly in-demand show which sold quickly, a handful of last minute tickets- as well as a variety of resale seats- are still available here.
Born Solána Imani Rowe and raised in New Jersey, SZA first debuted in the exciting, internet-informed alt-R&B scene of the early 2010s with a pair of self-released early EPs See.SZA.Run and S. Based on early buzz surrounding those records, SZA inked a deal with Top Dawg ahead of third EP Z, which proved a critical early breakthrough, making SZA one of the buzziest up and coming singers in the R&B and contemporary hip hip scene. A sought after collaborator, she’s guested on a plethora of releases with an impressive barrage of modern artists since, and by the release of Ctrl, she was writing with superstars like Beyoncé and Rihanna. Now a superstar in her own right, SOS further pushes SZA’s impressive, genre-bending, earnest, and incredibly cool style, and once again has racked up millions of streams, viral hit singles, chart-certifications, major awards nominations, and landed on a whole host of year-end lists. She’s just as phenomenal, layered, and impressive live, so don’t miss this rare chance to see her in Nashville!
SZA and d4vd will perform tonight, Sept. 24 at Bridgestone Arena. The show is all ages, begins at 8p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.), and tickets are available here.
