Formed in 2016 in their home of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Mongolian folk meets heavy metal outfit The HU are, without a doubt, one of the most unique bands in the world. Performing what they refer to as “Hunnu Rock,” the group fuse traditional instruments like Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), and Tumur Khuur (jaw harp) with modern guitars and percussion, and traditional throat singing with contemporary vocals and sounds, the result of which is a complex, heavy, and intriguingly visceral sound which has made them a favorite among hard rock fans.
After initially gaining notoriety from posting their music online, the band’s extremely homegrown sound soon found global appeal, with their 2019 debut album, The Gereg, achieving commercial success, landing the band tours around Asia and Europe, and eventually North America. They’ve collaborated with American rockers like Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix and Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, appeared on a Metallica-endorsed tribute album, and even saw their music featured in a Star Wars video game. And, fresh off of Coachella, they’re headed back to Nashville on May 9, to headline Cannery Ballroom with Florida alt rock outfit The Haunt!
While you can still buy tickets to the show right here, we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky winner! Enter below, and scroll for a preview of the performers.
