Every year, the summer music festival landscape seems to change and expand, and, though that sometimes can mean growing pains for larger, increasingly competitive events, and uncertainty for smaller ones, there’s been an ongoing demand for more curated, boutique, and unique fests. One of this 2019’s best new happenings was the inaugural Railbird Festival in nearby Lexington, Kentucky, which, despite its newcomer status, is presented by festival veterans AC Entertainment (the folks behind Bonnaroo, Forecastle, Moon River, and more). With a fantastic first year lineup of acts like The Raconteurs, Brandi Carlile, Old Crow Medicine Show, and more, we heard nothing but glowing reviews of last year’s event, so we weren’t surprised to hear that the fest had plans to return for year two.
Set to take place Aug. 22-23, once again at the historic and picturesque Grounds at Keeneland, Railbird is again looking like one the region’s hottest tickets of the summer (especially with its unique and regional identity, leaning heavily into Kentucky’s bourbon and horse culture, in addition to music), with more than 30 performers across three stages, covering a wide range of genres, and with quite a few Nashville performers, in addition to stellar national talent.
Managing to rival, or arguably surpass, last year’s lineup, Railbird 2020 is set to feature Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Maren Morris, The Head and the Heart, Young the Giant, The Decemberists, Tanya Tucker, Trampled by Turtles, Colter Wall, Whiskey Myers, Shovels & Rope, City and Colour, The Dead South, Cat Power, The War and Treaty, Hayes Carll, Sarah Jarosz, Lost Dog Street Band, Cedric Burnside, Bonny Light Horseman, John Moreland, Town Mountain, Liz Cooper & The Stampede, Paul Cauthen, The New Respects, Magnolia Boulevard, Southern Avenue, Caitlyn Smith, The Brook & The Bluff, Senora May. Bendigo Fletcher, Nicholas Jamerson, and Grayson Jenkins, a stellar and varied billing that undoubtedly sets this fest apart!
Tickets are on sale now, and range from GA to VIP, all right here, with student pricing available this year as well. Find out more about Railbird at the fest’s site, follow their social media links at the bottom of the page for the latest updates, and watch a recap of last year to see why you don’t want to miss out!
