Hardcore vocalist turned folk punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner and his backing band The Sleeping Souls are no strangers to Music City, making at least one stop in town for several years running, before slowing down to craft stellar new seventh album, Be More Kind. Returning after two years, Frank and the band are set to play Cannery Ballroom for the first time tonight, Oct. 4 with Bad Cop/Bad Cop and Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs, an incredible lineup for fans of earnest, rootsy, gimmick-free, and heartfelt punk. We’re shocked tickets are still available, and if you’ve been dragging your feet or just now find out about this show, we urge you to grab ’em here before they’re gone!

An earnest, powerful storyteller and compelling performer, Turner has, over the past few years, ascended from humble, DIY beginnings (we literally remember him playing basements not so long ago) to headlining stadiums (and even performing at the Olympics) in his native UK. Since finding worldwide fame with his breakout 2011 effort England Keep My Bones, Frank has consistently crafted some of the best, most accessible, and critically acclaimed records in punk, and with his deconstructed sound has managed to amass crossover appeal few performers in his realm have managed this century, particularly for a songwriting so true to his roots.

More biting and traditionally punk, LA’s Bad Cop/Bad Cop have been a buzzy fixture of the scene for the past few years, adopting a fast, ferocious, hook-laden sound and socially charged lyrical bent that feels like a throwback to the early ’90s, a la bands like NoFX and Bad Religion (the fact that they’re signed to classic pop punk label Fat Wreck Chords definitely cements that nostalgic vibe). And Canadian power pop outfit Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs bring even more range to the bill, adopting a more classic rock bent, but with a bit of heartland essence that meshes will with this lineup. You don’t want to miss any of these bands, so show up early!

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, and Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs will perform tonight, Oct. 4 at Cannery Ballroom. The show is 18+, begins at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $32.
