ParquetCourts2018-620

Celebrating their excellent, ambitious, Danger Mouse produced new sixth album Wide Awake!, New York indie/post-punk outfit Parquet Courts return to Nashville for the first time in two years to headline The Basement East, along with buzzy British up and comers Goat Girl, on June 3. If you’ve been following us since the beginning, you know we’ve been obsessing over Parquet Courts since their (and our) earliest days, and it’s been amazing to watch them grow from a promising DIY band to a critically beloved, mainstream indie rock fixture. Needless to say, this is one of our absolutely most-anticipated shows of the spring, and tickets are still available right here. Or, if you’d like to leave it to chance, we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Find out more about the show and enter for a chance to win below.

PARQUET COURTS

Blending punk rock attitude and jangly garage rock influences, Texas bred, New York based Parquet Courts formed in 2010, and first started gaining traction with their 2012 sophomore release Light Up Gold, which was lauded by both underground and mainstream press. With an art punk, DIY approach, yet broader indie accessibility, it wasn’t long before the band outgrew the underground scene (a time during which we saw them at now-defunct DIY space The Owl Farm in 2013) and attracted a cult following, appearing at festivals and subject of continued, widespread praise. 2014 saw the release of two new full-lengths, proper followup Sunbathing Animal, and the more experimental Content Nausea (released on their homonym Parkay Quarts), and 2016’s excellent Human Performance, a more reflective, artsy, ballad-geared effort, even earned them a Grammy nomination (albeit for Best Recording Package). The band’s latest effort, Wide Awake!, sees them teaming with super producer Danger Mouse, for what is their most earnest, focused, and thought-provoking release yet, simultaneously their most punk effort in years, while also finding the band explore a wide and unexpected range of influences. Over the years, we’ve seen numerous really special Parquet Courts shows in Nashville, but with two years since their last appearance, this’ll actually be the longest they’ve gone since performing in Music City. A smart, surprising, and always engaging live outfit, fans of substantive punk, indie, and garage rock go never go wrong with a Parquet Courts show.

GOAT GIRL

After a couple of years of serious, internet-bred hype, South London punk rooted project Goat Girl finally released their highly-anticipated, eponymous debut full-length earlier this year. Incorporating influences as diverse as country and goth rock, the young band waver between silly and serious, proving time and time again that they have the potential to live up to their lofty buzz. Raucous, unpredictable, and outspoken, the group are quite different from many of their moody, artsy British indie rock peers of late, and that’s a good thing- their quirky and unique vibe should fuse perfectly with Parquet Courts. It’s always great to see a new act on the rise, so be sure to arrive early!
