Five years after the release of their masterpiece sophomore effort Celebration Rock, Canadian indie/garage punk duo Japandroids, now more than a decade into their run, remerged earlier this year with a long-awaited followup: Near to the Wild Heart of Life. Written and recorded over two years in four cities across all of North America, the LP, more polished and honed than anything that’s come before it, follows the band’s established eight-song template, and channels influences of Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt, The National, authors Clarice Lispector and James Joyce, and more to inform its punk-spirited, noise poppy, heartland rock-adjacent aesthetic.
Continuing to tour in support of their latest, Japandroids just announced a new run of fall shows with Cloud Nothings, and, finally, they’ll make their way back to Nashville, following 2010 and 2012 shows at The End and Exit/In, Nov. 7 at Cannery Ballroom. Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 12 at 10 a.m. CDT right here (with a pre-sale beginning a day earlier), and given how far off the show is, we suspect it’ll definitely sell out; don’t procrastinate!
