We’ve been posting a lot about PWR BTTM lately, but that’s simply because the queer, New York punks definitely know how to build hype, debuting a barrage of new tracks and videos at a steady clip, all leading up to the May 12 release of their sophomore LP, Pageant. Following the upbeat, punk-leaning lead single “Big Beautiful Day” and melodramatic and anthemic ode to millennial angst, “Answer My Text,” the duo just debuted another new tune, “LOL,” and, despite the name, it’s actually the most personal, poignant, and calm track so far.
With Ben Hopkins on lead, the song navigates growing up, “reconciling who you wish you were with who you can’t help being,” and the complexities of being queer and in love. Though short, it builds through both emotional tension and musical dynamics (complete with a cool, operatic undertone), and really solidifies how fantastic Pageant is shaping up to be. Hear “LOL” below, and grab tickets to see PWR BTTM with Tancred and Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, June 13 at Mercy Lounge right here!
