Just last month, rising comedy star Aparna Nancherla was featured at Bonnaroo’s tastemaking Comedy Theatre, billed alongside fellow talents like Judd Apatow, Adam Devine, and Nate Bargatze. While Music City is not always a top spot for comedy tours (a fact that is, thankfully, fast changing), we’re thrilled to see that Nancherla is already back in the area so soon, for a July 11 performance at The Basement East, a spot that is aggressively positioning itself as an alternative venue for standup, complimenting Nashville mainstays like Zanies and TPAC. Aparna is out in support of her debut album, Just Putting It Out There, which is slated for release July 8 via Bentzen Ball Records, Tig Notaro’s new imprint under Secretly Canadian. There’s no denying that standup is seeing a welcome surge in popularity after decades of decline, and, if you want to catch one of the scene’s most promising up and comers, you can grab tickets right here for just $10! We’re also very excited to announce that we’re giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan, so read on to find out more about Nancherla, and enter below!
Well versed in improv, acting, and writing, New Yew-based comedian Aparna Nancherla is perhaps best known for her accomplishments in standup, rising through the ranks of the comedy world over the past several years to become a buzzworthy name you need to know. Hailing from the Washington, DC suburbs, Aparna studied at the Washington Improv Theater, the Upright Citizen’s Brigade, and the Groundlings, and has appeared on Conan, @midnight, Adam Devine’s House Party, Last Comic Standing, Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, and more, has has shared the stage with big names like John Oliver, Maria Bamford, Tig Notaro, and Eugene Mirman, along with appearances at Just For Laughs, SF Sketchfest, OutsideLands, and various other festivals, all to immense critical praise. As an actress, she’s landed roles on Love and Inside Amy Schumer, along with several web videos and shorts, and has served behind the scenes as a writer for Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and Late Night with Seth Meyers. Beloved by the comedy community, Nancherla makes regular appearances on top podcasts, hosts a weekly show at the UCB, and regularly performs standup, with a dry, whimsical, observational, and deeply personal style, unafraid to tackle more serious themes like depression. If you haven’t yet discovered this exciting comedic powerhouse, don’t miss a chance to see her intimate east side performance, and support Nashville’s live comedy scene!
