In the past year, since we first introduced you to Australian rockers DMA’S ahead of their debut at Bonnaroo, the poppy, nostalgic trio have come a long way, touring internationally and organically crafting their phenomenal debut, Hill’s End. The band played their first headlining show in Nashville last year, and return once again tonight, March 21 to perform at The High Watt with local group The Gills. With new material to add to their live repertoire, and ahead of international buzz, there couldn’t be a more exciting time to see DMA’S! Tickets to the show are still available right here, and you can find out more about the show below!
DMA’S
Just a few weeks ago, Australia’s DMA’S made their U.S. television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; a definitive indication of the big year they’re about to have. Celebrating the recent release of their fantastic debut full-length, Hill’s End, the trio, made up of Tommy O’Dell, Matt Mason, and Johnny Took, three self-proclaimed best friends and co-frontman, were already garnering worldwide buzz based on just the strength of their early homemade demos and handful of singles by the time they made their Bonnaroo debut last year. Channeling influences of Britpop, classic rock, ’90s alternative, garage, and indie rock, the laid back band have benefited from their fiercely DIY attitude, and are quickly becoming festival favorites and radio staples, all the while touring the world and honing their sound. Still a relatively new band, they’re eyeing a possible move to America in the near future, and are poised to become a household name in no time.
THE GILLS
Originally from Pensacola, FL, The Gills have been Nashville based for several years now, and have been on our radar for just as long. They made a strong impression with 2012’s Motor Running, and seem to be drifting in a grittier, more alternative direction than their previous pop rock sound, if their latest batch of track any indication. The group’s debut, eponymous full-length is due out in April 29, and we have no doubt it’ll be one of the best local releases of the year. There’s sure to be plenty of new tunes on full display, so catch ’em while they’re hot!
DMA’S and The Gills will perform tonight, March 21 at The High Watt. The show is 18+, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $12.
