Prolific out-of-the-box garage/psych rock guru Ty Segall had a unique and wonderful gift for music fans last month; Emotional Mugger is his second LP in the last six months (the other was with side project Fuzz), but the first backed by a band called the Muggers. Even by Segall standards, it was obvious this was going to be a weird one, with bizarre instructional videos, a new website, and even a hotline (1-800-281-2968), all leading up to the record’s January release.
Tonight, Feb. 22 Ty’s back in town to rock some faces off, with help from Axis: Sova and Savoy Motel, under the familiar roof of Mercy Lounge, unfortunately, though, but unsurprisingly, the show is now completely sold out. Couldn’t snag tickets in time? Perhaps you can at least find a bit of solace in watching Segall’s intense, inspired recent performance of “Candy Sam” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert… it appears Colbert was not quite ready.
