We’ve been talking a lot about the new supergroup The Arcs. They were dropping singles like crazy leading up to their debut album, Yours, Dreamily, which dropped on Sept. 4. The new outfit features Nashville rocker and Black Keys frontman Dan Auberbach, along with Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, and Nick Movshon, and they have since announced a tour to support the new project, with a date at the Ryman Auditorium on Dec. 20.
As though they haven’t already bitten off enough this year, The Arcs have now announced a limited edition 10″ Black Friday Record Store Day release, titled The Arcs vs. The Inventors, Vol 1. This release, which is slated to be part of an ongoing series of The Arcs performing with some of their favorite musicians, features Dr. John on piano and David Hidalgo on organ and guitar. Those of you that were at Bonnaroo back in 2011, may remember Dr. John and Auerbach getting uber funky with their Superjam together, and then they teamed up again in 2012 for Dr. John’s record, Locked Down, so it’s not surprising to see the two of them collaborating here. They just teased us with the first single, “Young,” which was co-written by David Berman of Silver Jews, who has made Nashville his home since retiring the Jews in 2009. You can check out that single below to get an idea of just what is at stake in this limited edition release.
Get up early after your Thanksgiving gluttony to line up for your copy of the limited 10″, grab a copy of Yours, Dreamily for some loved ones while you are there, and then snag tickets to catch The Arcs at The Ryman on Dec. 20.
