Festival Arms Race Heats Up; Kings of Leon, Moon Taxi, COIN, Civil Twilight More Announced for 2016 Firefly Fest

Just a day after Gulf Shores, AL-based Hangout Fest dropped their full 2016 lineup shockingly early, Dover, DE’s annual Firefly Music Festival has heated up the 2016 festival arms race, unveiling their entire lineup a staggering seven months ahead of the event, presumably to put pressure on holiday ticket buyers, and to benefit from a less-crowded press playing field. While Delaware isn’t exactly a day trip, we found this one noteworthy for two reasons. First, by this time of year, we typically see pre-lineup pre-sales, but almost never full lineup announcements, so watching a handful of events pull the trigger early tells us, at least partially, which artists are lining up festival dates, and could help better inform guesses as to who we might see at more regional events in 2016, such as Bonnaroo and Forecastle Fest. Secondly, the 2016 Firefly lineup, per usual, boasts a healthy amount of Nashville acts, including headliners Kings of Leon, along with site faves like Moon Taxi, COIN, Civil Twilight, The Lonely Biscuits, Marc Sciblia, and Elliot Root. Set to take place June 16-19, the week after Bonnaroo, this year’s bill also includes Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine, Blink-182, Death Cab For Cutie, Chvrches, Noah Gundersen, and many more!
