One of our favorite alternative punk bands in town Secret Club are dropping their debut album Apocalypse Meow today, complete with an in-store at Grimey’s tonight at 6 p.m. to celebrate the occasion, a busy week for them after opening for Twin Peaks at Mercy Lounge on Monday night. Then, next Friday, June 26 the group willl play a proper album release show at The Basement to celebrate their new LP.
Secret Club were formed under the idea that their music would be about having fun, and their tunes and their shows have certainly accomplished that mission. The trio have built their reputation around town mostly on word of mouth, playing indie alternative influenced by ’70s New York punk with tongue-in-cheek lyrics. A personal favorite track is the delightfully clever “Circle K,” a Ramones homage about falling in love with a racist gas station attendant.
