We’ve kept you up to speed on all of the happenings of Chaz Bundick, known best by his stage name Toro y Moi, in the last couple of months; from several new singles to the final release of What For?, Chaz has been pretty busy, to say the least, but we’re glad that he worked a show at Exit/In this Sunday, May 10 into his schedule. Read on for more info about his newest endeavors and some info about opener Vinyl Williams.
TORO Y MOI
Columbia, South Carolina native Chaz Bundick, best known as Toro y Moi, may have helped pioneer the chillwave movement a few years ago, but the most recent album, What For?, sees the multi-talented artist and producer trading his keyboard out for a guitar and also adding a few members to the band. While the new style is definitely different than earlier efforts, the underlying elements of funk and R&B are still present and still just as easy to listen to. The group’s newest single, “Lilly,” was just released last week with a new video, which you can check out below.
VINYL WILLIAMS
The project of LA-based musician/artist Lionel Williams (see what he did there?), Vinyl Williams’ goal is to create sounds that provide the listener with pleasant sensory experiences, and it does just that. In addition to opening for Toro y Moi on this run of shows, Vinyl Williams has also been added to his record label and will release a debut in July. Preview “World Soul,” the first single, below.
Toro y Moi and Vinyl Williams will perform Sunday, May 10 at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 .p.m), and tickets are available for $20.
