For the last few years, our friends at Lightning 100 and Marathon Music Works have been teaming up every April to throw an epic Marathon Village Block Party to kick off the spring concert season! Boasting a market of local venders, food trucks, a VIP lounge, and, of course, a stellar lineup which we already announced, this year’s April 25 installment of the annual event will feature a stacked bill of All Them Witches, The Black Cadillacs, Sol Cat, American Hotel, and Smooth Hound Smith. Tickets are available for $15 right here, and VIP passes are also available for $75, which include admission to the VIP Lounge at William Collier’s with side stage private viewing area of the outdoor stage, food, and adult beverages. If you feel like trying your luck, we have a pair of standard tickets up for grabs, so read on for a preview of the lineup and enter below!
ALL THEM WITCHES
Influenced by metal and psychedelic rock as well as the blues, All Them Witches play heavy southern rock. Their new album, Lightning At the Door, came out in September, and their busy 2014 included a performance at Live on the Green. They’ve long been a fixture in the local scene, and their eclectic sound, broad thematic focus, and killer live show make them an exciting choice to headline this year’s festivities.
THE BLACK CADILLACS
Hailing from Knoxville, The Black Cadillacs are a band we’ve long been fans of, and are a great pairing for All Them Witches. The group dropped an eclectic, self-titled EP earlier this year, and have been enjoying its success ever since. A true rock band through and through, their sound is loud an energetic, with a touch of Southern charm, and their live show is just as compelling.
SOL CAT
We’ve been writing about Sol Cat for about as long as they’ve been a band, and, over the past few years, have watched their long-standing psychedelic and groove-rock tendencies more into a tighter, broader style which include poppier arrangements and more electronics. They’re one of the best live bands around, so it’s no surprise they’re returning for yet another Block Party.
AMERICAN HOTEL
Relatively new to the scene, local rock sextet American Hotel boast no less than three lead singers, and are currently hard at work on their debut album, which is expected to drop this year.
SMOOTH HOUND SMITH
Rootsy duo Smooth Hound Smith channel elements of blues, folk, and soul with their complex, infectious sound. They’re an incredibly compelling live band, and a really good excuse to show up early and get your all-day Block Party on.
