Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s self-titled debut album turns 10 this year, and the band is celebrating with a tour focusing on their seminal “must have” record for all indie rock catalogues. Released in 2005, CYHSY arguably began the migration away from the traditional record label means of releasing an album. The blogosphere got ahold of the online self-release, and garnished it with critical acclaim that forced the band to run another pressing of CDs and vinyl of the record to meet demand.
In the years since CYHSY “blew up on the internet”, an infinite number of bands have tried / are trying to duplicate that method. Some may succeed with the approach (and there are more than enough music blogs out there these days), but the real reason the debut album was so well received is that from start to finish it is a solid output of sheer loveable indie rock genius. The band has released 3 more full lengths since 2005 each with moments of glory, but the debut, featuring the timeless hits like “Over And Over Again (Lost And Found)”, “The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth”, and “Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood”, is an album that I continue to go back to when I need to nostalgically rock out to CYHSY.
If you are a fan of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, then you should definitely mark your calendar for June 3rd, when you’ll get to see the band perform the debut in it’s entirety along with other favorites at Exit/In. Tickets are on-sale now, and are available for only $15.
