This weekend is shaping up to be a great one for music lovers in Nashville. We mentioned them in our TWiN post yesterday, but we’re so stoked about jazz-soul band Lake Street Dive performing tonight with The Congress at the Cannery Ballroom that we decided to expand with a full preview.
There is a lot going on this weekend, and it’s times like this when we feel fortunate to have such a large staff to cover it all. If you haven’t already committed to something else tonight, you should seriously consider checking these bands out. If you still need convincing check out the descriptions and videos below after the jump.
THE CONGRESS
The Congress clearly have some strong soul roots, but their sound is also sometimes reminiscent of 60s roots rock groups like The Band (which is most evident in the video below). This four-piece is a hard one to lock down with labels, though, as they also have a very modern rock sound in the mix. The one thing that we know for sure is that we are looking forward to seeing them tonight.
LAKE STREET DIVE
As if the massive soul vocals of singer Rachael Price weren’t enough to make this band great, the musicianship of each member is really impressive. Their jazz backgrounds shine through in the tunes, keeping us on our toes as we nod along with the beautifully written songs. We were, admittedly, a little late to discover these talents after their arrival on the scene, but we were immediately excited to get to know this band better after hearing them the first time.
Lake Street Dive and The Congress will perform October 25, 2014 at The Cannery Ballroom. The show is 18+, begins at 8 (doors at 7), and tickets are available for [$20].
