Bitchfest flyer -620

Bitchfest is returning for its annual night of female-fronted rock and roll and feminism at Charlie Bob’s on Saturday, August 30, and with all the badassery that’s bound to ensue this event deserves to be included amongst your Labor Day weekend festivities. Tickets are $8 presale, $10 at the door, and the madness begins at 7 p.m. Bitchfest is a completely DIY, grassfoots, mini festival that seeks to support and promote the hardest rocking female musicians in the South. Local feminist hard rock trio Thelma and the Sleaze have hosted the event four years running, and they’ve got a wicked lineup planned for this year.

Other fabulous femmes on the bill include the post punks from Athens, Motherfucker; scary hard rockers from Indianapolis, We Are Hex; Memphis-based gangster rapper Chopper Girl; and the proto-punk influenced, Las Vegas-based group Tiger Sex in addition to the violently lovely Thelma and the Sleaze.

Not only will there be bands, but feminist organizations will be there to discuss the ways they’re getting involved in the community. And that’s not all, folks, these ladies are also coming prepared (get it?) with free contraceptives for all. Come out and spend part of your long and otherwise boring holiday weekend supporting women who rock.
